Description
Centaurea americana is indeed a treasure among America's wildflowers. The common name for it, basket-flower, comes from the intricate structure at the base of the flower head. In this photograph the golden color of the lower part of the background (and the background is completely natural, I'll add, as in all my photographs) mimics the gold of the floral basket.

I've photographed this species of wildflower many times, Marina, but a few months ago I managed to get this different view of it.

excellent macro!
Steven Schwartzman replied:
I see that you're from Sydney. When I visited your area 10 years ago I was surprised to find lantana, a plant that's native in Texas, growing wild by the side of a path.
