Description
I'd only seen this phenomenon once before, several years earlier, so I was excited to find another occurrence. This time three large ants (rather than two smaller ones) had gotten trapped in the sticky resin that's produced by the stalks of sunflower plants (Helianthus annuus). Ants are powerful relative to their tiny body size, but not powerful enough to extricate themselves from the gooey sunflower resin, which becomes their tomb.

You may be in Ukraine, but I understand your comment perfectly and have no need of a translator. Thanks.

How wonderful that you were able to capture one of nature's "decisive moments", and that even in death there can be beauty.
Steven Schwartzman replied:
Thanks. That's just how I hoped people would see this. The decisive moment has a venerable history in photography.
