This view during a snowfall explains why one name for the native tree Ilex decidua is winterberry.
I've been involved with photography since the late 1960s, when I got my first real camera toward the end of my two years in Honduras as a Peace Corps math teacher. From the 1970s through the mid-1980s I went through a phase of black and white infrared photography, often even in 3-D. My current period began in 1999. Call me a nature photographer and you won't be wrong, but because there's not a lot of majestic scenery where I live (which is Austin, Texas), I've gotten interested in portraying the native plants of the region, especially our many wildflowers. I can see it, Toni. Thanks.
Norm Starks
Lovely capture.
Steven Schwartzman replied:
You live in a land of winter snow, which we barely have any of down here, so I took advantage of a rare snowfall.
Marcia Lee Jones
Nice winter capture!
Steven Schwartzman replied:
It was a rare opportunity for me in a place that doesn't often get snow.
Andrei SKY
Nicely done!
Steven Schwartzman replied:
Thanks, mate.

Beautiful Steven lvf
Steven Schwartzman replied:
Thanks, Michael. You must have possumhaws where you are, too,100 miles north of me.
Roberta Byram

Steven Schwartzman replied:
I was thrilled to see it, Roberta.
Heiko Koehrer-Wagner

Beautiful red and egiye in Winterberry During A Snowfall Steven
Steven Schwartzman replied:
Snow is a rarity in central Texas—unlike Sweden.
John Bailey
Congratulations on being featured in the Fine Art America Group "Images That Excite You!"
Steven Schwartzman replied:
Thanks for your choice. This is an exciting group to be in.
Felicia Tica
Awesome look!
Steven Schwartzman replied:
I find it especially awesome because in central Texas we almost never get to see a scene like this due to the warm climate. Switzerland, on the other hand, is a land of frequent and heavy snow, although you may not have anything like the little possumhaw fruits for your snow to cover.

I can see these as decorative wall panels. Maybe someone else will see it too.
Steven Schwartzman replied:
Thanks for sharing your conception for this image.
Lyric Lucas
Congratulations your creative "Holiday Image"has been showcased on the Home Page of the "Out Of The Ordinary" group!
Steven Schwartzman replied:
I live in central Texas, so it's not often that I get to photograph a scene that's more familiar to people up north. I'm glad it caught your holiday fancy.
Cynthia Guinn
Beautiful!
Steven Schwartzman replied:
Thanks. That's certainly how I felt.
Randy Burns
These are everywhere here. I love this scene with the snow and the red berries. F/L
Steven Schwartzman replied:
The trees are common in central Texas but the snow is not, so I took advantage of one of our rare snowfalls to combine the two things.
Nina Silver
Nice. Set up a price for throw pillows on this one.
Steven Schwartzman replied:
Thanks for your prompt. I've done it.
Cassandra Buckley
So beautiful
Steven Schwartzman replied:
I wish I saw scenes like this more often in Austin.
Andrei SKY

Joan-Violet Stretch
Very pretty :)

If you're in the UK, you must see more snow than I do in central Texas.

Agreed: it is.
