Description
People are often surprised to learn that many insects will sting not only another animal but also various plants. A plant that's been stung reacts by creating a growth called a gall, which in the case shown here has taken the form of a chartreuse sphere with red spots on it. Galls often become the homes of developing insect larvae, and that's why insects sting plants in the first place.
